Burger King Scholars Program

Created in memory of BURGER KING® Co-founder James “Jim” W. McLamore, the BURGER KINGâ„  Scholars program has awarded $25.3 million in scholarships to more than 24,000 high school students, BK® employees and their families across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico since 2000. In 2015 alone, the Foundation awarded $2.7 million to close to 2,500 students in North America.

Jenkins Memorial Scholarship for Teacher Education

This scholarship in the amount of $3000 assists outstanding students in preparing for the teaching profession.  It is awarded annually by the NYS PTA.  Criteria for judging includes: character, personality, academic achievement and potential teaching ability.  Candidates must be high school seniors who plan to prepare for a teaching career and who plan to attend a college of the State University of New York (or a two-year community college before transferring to a college of the State University of New York.) Applicants passing the initial screening must attend a personal interview.

The AXA Achievementsm Scholarship in Association with US News & World Report

Who is eligible?

Applicants to the AXA Achievement Scholarship in association with U S News & World Report must:

  • Be United States citizens or legal residents living or claiming residency in one of the 50 United States, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico
  • Be current high school seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2017-2018 academic year.
  • Demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities
  • Special consideration will be given to achievements that empower society to mitigate risk through education and/or action in areas such as financial, environmental, health and/or emergency-preparedness 

Eligible students are encouraged to apply for both the Achievement and Community scholarships, but a student may receive only one of these AXA-sponsored scholarships.

  • Applications are currently being accepted
  • The application deadline is December 15, 2017. Only the first 10,000 applications will be accepted; we encourage you to apply early.
  • Winners are announced in the Spring.

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award

The NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards program was established to raise awareness among the nation’s youth of the critical role that private enterprise and entrepreneurship play in the building of America. Since 2003, the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation has awarded over 2,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors totaling more than $2.5 million.

Imagine America Foundation

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program

Honoring the legacy and character of our nation’s 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education.

Each year, the Program selects numerous recipients to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years – up to $40,000 total per recipient. Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study, and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board. In addition, Scholars are invited to participate in a special awards program.

To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

· demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship;

· demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent);

· demonstrate financial need;

·    be citizens of the United States of America;

·    be current high school seniors attending high school in the United States (students living on U.S. Armed Forces base and homeschooled students are also eligible); and

· plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.

New York State Credit Union League Scholarship 

The applicant must be a member in good standing of a participating New York credit union who meets all of the following criteria:

• The member is a college-bound high school senior at the time of application.
• The member is attending college for the first time in the fall of 2016.
• The member will be enrolled in either a two- or four-year accredited educational institution.
• The member agrees to use any scholarship funds awarded by January 31, 2017, at an accredited
educational institution only.

Noyes Health Auxiliary Scholarship

Noyes Health Auxiliary, formally known as The Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Auxiliary, will be awarding up to $5000 in college scholarships. Scholarships will be granted to qualified students matriculating in an associate or bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university in medicine, nursing, or in another health-related field, including dentistry, ophthalmology, and pharmacy. We are inviting you to encourage appropriate students to apply for these scholarships.  We are glad we are able to offer this opportunity to help students in the Noyes Health service area defray the high expenses incurred by today’s college students.

Ronald McDonald House Charities NY Tri-State Area

RMHC funds the largest scholarship in the NY Tri-State area, and this year, the organization is giving more than $725,000 in scholarship funds to local students. The program seeks to identify and support students in financial need who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and community involvement. 

All students may apply regardless of ethnic heritage for the RMHC Scholars Program. (Asian, African American and Hispanic students are welcome to apply for the RMHC Scholars program provided they have not applied for any of the other scholarship programs that RMHC sponsors).

DECA's scholarship program provides over $300,000 in scholarships at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) each year. Many corporate partners of DECA provide scholarships through the DECA Scholarship Program. DECA Inc. administers the program based on guidelines set by the donor. DECA scholarships are strictly merit based.

Elk's National Scholarship Foundation

All applications can be found on the website.

The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the competition. Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply.

  • Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks.
  • College students are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.
  • Male and female students compete separately.

 

The Most Valuable Student scholarship contest is open to any high school senior who is a US Citizen. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. The Gunther & Lee Weigel Medical School Scholarship - The Elks National Foundation is pleased to offer an exclusive scholarship opportunity just for Elks scholars pursuing a medical degree or Osteopathic Medicine degree. This Gunther & Lee Weigel Medical School Scholarships are $20,000 scholarships offered to Elks scholars (current or alum) entering their first year of medical school. The scholarship established through the generosity of the late Lee Weigel, widow of Gunther Weigel.

National Co-Op Scholarship Program

Scholarships for highly motivated students based on a 250-300 word essay will be awarded to qualified students.

Requirements: 

Have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale. Complete all the required admissions applications material and be accepted for the 2013-2014 academic year at one of the WACE Partner Institutions listed.

Manning & Napier Advisors Scholarship Program - No new information

Manning & Napier has established a scholarship program to assist high school seniors in the greater Rochester, New York area who plan to continue their education. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited four-year college or university of the student's choice.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a division of Scholarship America. Scholarship Management Services is the nation's largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.

Scholarships for 2016

Purpose of Scholarships
AES Engineering is pleased to be able to continue offering scholarships to motivated students to help in the furthering of their education.

Scholarship Criteria
Our belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason we are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluated the essays that are submitted.

Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility.

You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.
 
How to Apply
Students must submit an essay of between 500 and 1000 words in answer to the following question:

When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful?  What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?

VFW Voice of Democracy Scholarship

Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars' premier scholarship program.

This scholarship is open to students in grades 9-12, who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school.  

All applicants will submit an application with a 3-5 minute recorded essay on the topic "Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?"

New York Farm Bureau

Offers scholarships to students planning a future in Agriculture


New York Farm Bureau is encouraging high school seniors who have been involved with agriculture and plan on continuing studies in this field to apply for the New York Farm Bureau Agricultural Youth Scholarship, sponsored by the New York Farm Bureau Promotion and Education Committee. Scholarship award amounts are $1,500 for first place, $1,200 for second place and $1,000 for third place. The first place winner will be invited to present their essay at an NYFB spring event.

 

Students applying must have a family Farm Bureau membership or a student Farm Bureau membership (a membership application may be included with scholarship enclosures). Students are required to submit a brief essay answering the question, “If you had the power to change something in your community or on your farm, what would you change and why?

This scholarship is available to any senior who plans to attend college.  All applicants must submit a statement of character from one of their current teachers and/or someone who is acquainted with your community service activity. Ladies Ancient Order of the Hibernians

Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians is an Irish-Catholic Women's Organization that places emphasis on Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity.  It is because of this that the organization would like to provide a scholarship to a graduating senior.  At this time the award is for $500 and may split between deserving applicants.

Arkport Alumni Scholarships

The Paul R. King Memorial Scholarship/ Arkport Alumni Association $1,000.00 Scholarship

As a graduate of Arkport Central School, Class of 1954, Paul loved Arkport and always carried his memories of growing up in our small community with him throughout his life journeys. Paul graduated Bowling Green University and Alfred University with degrees in history and taught high school for many years at Avoca Central School. He also was a professor of Sociology and Anthropology at Alfred State College. His sister Myrtle (Mona) King Crissey is providing this $1,000.00 scholarship in her brother’s memory.

Eligibility: This scholarship is available to any senior at ACS who has a love of history and/or will be majoring in History at a two (2) or four (4) year college.

Paul J. “Wink” Wolfgruber Jr. and Paul J. Wolfgruber Memorial Scholarship $1,000.00

A scholarship in memory of Paul “Wink” Wolfgruber, Jr. (who attended ACS with the Class of 1965 and who lost his life in a motorcycle accident during the summer before his senior year) and his father Dr. Paul J. Wolfgruber (a local physician for many years in the Arkport area) has been established in the amount of $1,000 ($500.00 a year for two (2) years).

Eligibility: This scholarship is available to any senior from Arkport Central School who has an interest in pursuing a medical career while attending a two (2) or four (4) year college

The Paul R. King Memorial Scholarship/ Canisteo Valley Historical Society $1,000.00

Receiving the quarterly newsletter from the Historical Society was a highlight in Paul’s later years. With his love of his childhood community, he enjoyed reading the stories and viewing the pictures of the history of the Arkport area from the past. In his memory, his sister Helen King Beveridge is providing this $1,000.00 scholarship in her brother’s memory.

Eligibility This scholarship is available to any senior at ACS who has a love of history and/or will be majoring in History in a two (2) or four (4) year college.

C. Jack Wraight Memorial Scholarship $500.00 Scholarship

A scholarship in the memory of Jack Wraight, past administrator, educator and coach at Arkport Central School has been established by his family and friends in the amount of $500.00.

Eligibility This scholarship in available to any senior pursuing a career in education with a two (2) or four (4) year college or any senior who will be seeking additional training in a trade field such as welding, electrician, plumber, construction etc.…

Special consideration will be given to any applicants who were reliable participants in athletics and who has represented themselves and their school well.

Canisteo Valley Historical Society/Arkport Historical Society Scholarship in the amount of $300.00 

A scholarship from the Historical Society is being given by their membership to any senior with a love of history or who will be majoring in History or has a financial need.

Eligibility: Any senior attending a two (2) or four (4) year college majoring in history or indicates their love of history.

Arkport Alumni Association $400.00 Scholarships

Through donations from ACS alumni, the Arkport Alumni Association is offering several $400.00 scholarships to graduating seniors.

Eligibility: Any senior who is attending a two (2) or four (4) college or attending a trade school is eligible to apply.

Guideline For Applying For Scholarships:

Applications must be submitted and include the following information: Name, mailing address, email address, home phone number and cell phone number List name of scholarship(s) applying for by graduate List all extracurricular/athletic actives in and out of school during high school years including position, Pres., VP, Capt. etc. and years in club/sport 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th. Provide a 350-word essay describing goals, reasons for choosing the future profession and any information you feel appropriate Submission of Scholarships All applications for the above scholarships must be submitted by email to Alumni President Linda Burdett at burdett.lk@windstream.net by May 10, 2017.

Beatrice L. Williams

This $1000 scholarship is available to a student that plans to attend Alfred State College.  To be eligible for this scholarship, you must attend Arkport, Avoca, Canisteo-Greenwood, Wayland-Cohocton, Hornell or Jasper-Troupsburg school.  The application will be available in the guidance office in March.

VAC Employees Federal Credit Union Membership Scholarship

The Board established this scholarship in 2001 and has been able to offer several $500 scholarships every year since. We hope to continue this tradition to help our college bound members with their continued educational expenses.The Board of Directors at the VAC Employees Federal Credit Union is pleased to offer our young members the opportunity to apply for our membership scholarship.

Criteria to apply:

  • Must be a member of the VAC Employees Federal Credit Union for at least one full year.

The Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York "Ned Carter Scholarship

This $1500 scholarship is for NYS High School Seniors who will be graduating in June of 2015.  The student must be related to or be a firefighter in an affiliated member organization of the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York and must reside within New York State.

New York State Association of Agriculture Fairs

Amount (10) $1000 scholarships. To provide financial assistance to those high school and college students who have been active in their local fairs and who intend to pursue or who are pursuing a degree.  Application is open to all applicants regardless of your field of study.  However, additional consideration may be given to those applicants pursuing a degree in a field related to agriculture, fair management or the outdoor amusement business.  All are encouraged to apply.

Exchange Club - Youth of the Year Award

This scholarship is a 4 year, $1000 per year scholarship, totaling $4000 for a student graduating in 2017. Applicants must complete the application and return it to Ms. Salmon or Mrs. Tobias.  Please pick up the application and essay topic in Student Services.

Arkport PTSO Character Award

The Arkport PTSO gives $300.00 to a graduating senior that contributes positively to our school and community, genuinely cares about people, is self-disciplined and works to the best of their ability.

Criteria:

·     Student must intend to continue their education after high school including a 4-year college, 2-year college, technical degrees, trade or vocational school training or part-time students pursuing a degree while working.

·   Graduating senior

·   GPA of 80 or higher

·   Good attendance

·   Completed application including Student’s Self-Rating Form (use the form attached)

·   One Letter of Recommendation (use the form attached)

Steuben Trust Company Scholarship

Steuben Trust Company will award a total of three $5,000 scholarships and two $3,000 scholarships to graduating seniors.  

Completed applications are to be returned to the Guidance Office by April 28, 2017.

Barbara Wheeler Schneider Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded each year to an Arkport Central School senior based upon their scholastic ability and demonstrated concern for their fellow classmates.  Applicants must submit a typed summary of why they feel they should be considered for the award. You should also include service type activities that you have done in school, in your church, with the scouts, the community or for any person or group which would "demonstrate concern by the individual."  Information for this scholarship will be handed out in class.

Student-View Scholarship Program

Student-View Scholarship Program is offering $8,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college of career school. The program includes:

WNY Safari Club International

The scholarship is primarily based on the objectives of the SCI Foundation and conservation of resources. We are offering consideration to high school seniors who demonstrate a high level of interest in the environment, outdoor sports like hunting, fishing and related activities. There is a significant weight applied to those who are planning on a course of study that would translate to a career in some form of conservation and wildlife enforcement. 

The scholarship is awarded in a check for $1,500 and will be given to as many as four students that qualify under the discretion of the chairman.

Friends of Allegany Arc 

Friends of Allegany Arc is offering a scholarship to a high school student, who is an Allegany County resident, planning to enroll in college full-time in the fall and pursue a degree in a field related to working with people with intellectual or developmental disabilities.  This includes Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech Therapy, nursing, special education or the human service field.

Dansville Fish and Game, Inc. 

The Dansville Fish & Game Club is offering a scholarship to a graduating senior.

 

Eligibility:

1.  Applicant must be a graduating high school student entering an accredited college in the U.S.

2.  Applicant must wish to pursue a career in conservation, conservation biology, environmental protection, conservation science, wildlife and forestry, natural resources, wildlife management, aquatic and fisheries science (freshwater or marine science), environmental biology, wildlife science, natural resource conservation, etc.


3.  Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student to receive this award.

America's Farmers Grow Ag Leaders, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund

This new program is working to keep young adults in agriculture by giving them the opportunity to earn a $1,500 scholarship to further their education.  At the same time, raising awareness of the diverse career opportunities in our industry. 

November 15 through February 1 students can apply online at www.FFA.org/scholarships. Farmers can endorse applicants through February 8.  Recipients will be notified in the spring of 2016.
